Questions about Mahjong Live
Is this mahjong solitaire?
No. This is the four-player game where you draw and discard tiles to build a winning hand. See how to play.
Do I need to download anything?
No. Open the game in your browser. A wider screen or landscape view gives you more room around the table.
Is the game free?
The current game is free to play. It has no real-money wagering or cash prizes.
Can I play on my own?
Yes. Choose Single player to play against three bots. You can configure the table and resume an unfinished practice game. Practice does not change your online rating.
How do I play with friends?
Sign in, choose Play online → New table, set up the game and share its table code. Your friends choose Join with a code. Each human player confirms they are ready once all four seats are filled.
Can I choose a table rather than be assigned one?
Yes. Browse tables to check the players, ratings and settings before joining. Find a game is the quicker option when you want the game to find a seat for you.
What if we have fewer than four people?
The host can add clearly labelled bots to empty seats. Games with bots are unrated.
Which rules can I play?
The current new-game menu offers Hong Kong Old Style with a 3 fan minimum. Custom tables can turn flowers off. Other variants have different rules and are not currently offered for new games.
Can I take my time?
The tutorial is untimed. Custom tables offer different turn paces, including No limit. A no-limit clock does not remove the need for an online connection. Check the table’s settings before joining.
What happens if I disconnect?
Return to the game as soon as you can. Online games use the table’s connection and inactivity rules; leaving a ranked game does not erase its result. Single-player practice can be paused.
How do ratings work?
Ratings belong to a ruleset and competitive format. Practice, bot games and casual records stay separate from human ranked play. A new ranked player has a provisional rating while they establish a record.
Do tiles or mats give an advantage?
No. Themes change the tile design and mat only. All players at a table use its chosen look.
What can other players see about me?
Your public display name, selected country flag, rating and relevant game records may be shown. Your timezone and sign-in email are not table details. See the Privacy Policy draft for the data inventory and current limits.
Where are my settings and records?
Sign in and open your avatar → Profile. Details, Preferences and Stats are kept together there. Local practice progress is stored in that browser and is separate from your online account.
